Why TorqueForge vs Enterprise CAE

  • Lightweight standalone app
  • Parametric geometry, no CAD
  • Parallel FEMM processes
  • Affordable, transparent pricing

01 / Built for motor engineers

Features

The complete electric machine workflow, without the enterprise overhead.

57 machine types

SPM, IPM, EESM, SynRM, PMa-SynRM — inner, outer, double rotor.

Multistatic rotation

No remesh between positions: ripple, cogging, back-EMF.

Maps & strategies

Flux maps, MTPA / MTPV, torque–speed and efficiency maps.

Winding designer

kw1, slot star, harmonics and a Q × 2p matrix.

Losses & mechanics

Iron and copper losses, Br(T), rotor stresses.

Nothing solved twice

One .tqf file with all inputs and results.

02 / Workflow

Six steps from topology to results.

A step bar guides you left to right. Every input has a ? help, every result a CSV export.

03 / Analyses

Tick any combination. One FEMM session.

The model is drawn once; all analyses share it. Iron losses and torque–speed update live when speed, Udc or loss data change — no new FEMM run.

  • T
    Torque–speed

Fast or accurate; MTPA, field weakening and MTPV within current and voltage limits.

  • η
    Efficiency map

Three strategies: minimum copper loss, weighted loss shifting, maximum efficiency.

  • σ

SPM: arc, bread-loaf, inset, consequent pole, Halbach · IPM: bar, V, double V, V + bar, spoke

SynRM

Fluid-shaped, circular-arc, U-shaped or straight barriers (1–4 layers) · salient pole with cut-outs

PMa-SynRM

Fluid or U barriers with magnets in the middle of each layer, width per layer

◆ Highlight · Double rotor

One stator. Two rotors. Two air gaps.

An inner and an outer rotor share one stator with slots on both sides. Every one of the 19 rotor designs is available as a double rotor — modelled, solved and evaluated like any other machine.

  • Two air-gap elements, one result. The torque is the sum of both gaps; both windings are in series and their flux linkages add up.
  • Flux straight through. Both rotors drive their flux radially outwards at the first pole, so it crosses the stator directly — the yoke can stay thin.
  • Double EESM. Two field-wound rotors with both field windings in series, optimised like a single EESM.
Common yoke

Slots at the bore and at the outside, two windings in series.

Yokeless, segmented

Separate tooth segments from gap to gap, no yoke iron — less mass, less iron loss. Ideal for tooth-coil windings.

Prices apply to TorqueForge only. FEMM 5 is free open-source software by David Meeker; its original, unmodified installer is included with the TorqueForge setup. FEMM is installed as a separate program under its own license and is neither sold nor licensed by us.

06 / Good to know

Engineering clarity. No surprises.

A few answers before your first simulation.

Is FEMM included?

TorqueForge uses FEMM 5, the free finite element solver by David Meeker, as its solver. FEMM is not covered by the TorqueForge license: the setup contains the original, unmodified FEMM 5 installer and installs it as a separate program (by default to C:\femm-qt) under its own open-source license. TorqueForge only runs FEMM and never modifies it — there is no solver license to buy.

Do I need an existing CAD license like SolidWorks or NX?

No. Every cross-section is built parametrically inside TorqueForge and handed to FEMM directly. Geometry can be exported as PNG, SVG, PDF or JSON (with region seed points) if you want to take it further.

What are the system requirements?

Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) with FEMM 5. A multi-core CPU pays off: TorqueForge spreads the solutions of a run over several FEMM processes running in parallel.

How are the results checked?

TorqueForge is checked with consistency tests: a symmetric sector against the full 360° model, and the torque against the value from the flux linkages. The geometry kernel is checked against a MATLAB reference for every machine type, and the mechanics against the analytical rotating disk. Like any numerical model, the results are approximations: always check them for plausibility before you rely on them.

What does TorqueForge not do?

FEMM 5 has no transient solver, so eddy currents in magnets and voltage-fed operation are not included. For constant-speed operating points with sinusoidal currents, the multistatic sweep gives the same torque, flux linkage and induced voltage. Mechanical losses are not part of the efficiency map.

Who qualifies for the Academic license?

Students, researchers and teaching staff at universities and public research institutes, for non-commercial work. Projects funded by or carried out for industry need a Commercial license.

What happens to my projects after the trial?

Your .tqf project files stay on your disk. Open them with any paid license — inputs and results are restored, nothing is solved again.
